Acres Down

One of the most spectacular birding sites in Hampshire and a visit here is a must.It remains one of the best sites for Hawfinch, Firecrest and Goshawk. In summer the woodlands are home to Wood warbler(below), Firecrest (right) and the rare Honey buzzard.Acres Down can be found 2km south west of Minestead and is approached via a unclassified road showing a red 'no entry' or 'dead end' symbol. Pass through this sign and through a small ford (can be deep after severe rainfall). A small car parking area is situated beside the farmhouse which does excellent cream teas!
