Wakkerstroom Project Situated in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa, approximately 300km east of Johannesburg, accessible by tarred road. Size: 141 hectares with access to the adjacent Wakkerstroom Wetland Reserve of 1200 hectares.
Habitat: Highveld grassland and wetland habitats inside the reserve. Access is also possible to the adjacent grassland and montane forests in the district by means of an extensive network of secondary roads. Birds & wildlife: A total of 385 species have been recorded in the district to date, 144 of these have been recorded on the BirdLife SA Reserve. Interesting species include the globally threatened Whitewinged Flufftail and Rudd's Lark. A considerable number of South African endemics also occur in the area, such as Botha's Lark, Yellowbreasted Pipit, Blue Crane, Blue Korhaan, Southern Bald Ibis, Longtailed Widow, etc. Other wildlife include a number of small game such as Mountain Reedbuck, Grey duiker with smaller predators, e.g. Serval, Caracal, Cape Clawless Otter, etc. Visiting & access: The following accommodation options are available: Camping and Self-catering: 12x2 bedded rooms with shared ablutions and kitchen facilities.
