Blickling Park
Lesser-spotted woodpecker

Lesser-spotted woodpecker

Aswell as the spectacular early 17th century Jacobean house, Blickling boasts 55 acres of gardens, a lake and a large wooded estate that has numerous pathways with views across the Bure valley. There is also an excellent cycle hire fascility with map provided.
Best in spring / early summer when the woodlands are alive with bird song. For Lesser-spotted woodpecker try both 'the mount' wood with water tower or any of the small wooded areas between the tower and deer pits. Best looked for in March when the trees hold less cover and the birds are displaying. Also, try to remember the bird's distinctive call and drumming duration (see birding-radio 'Wonderful woodpeckers') and remember above anything else that these birds are tiny - sparrow sized.
