exposed sand and mud make Boulmer a good place for waders
Boulmer

Boulmer

The site is probably best viewed as part of a day trip that perhaps takes in the Alnmouth estuary and Craster.Take the minor road north from the roundabout in Alnmouth. At the first T junction turn right, and this road leads to Boulmer. An excellent view of the bay can be enjoyed from the rear of the Fishing Boat Inn (Food served - entrance through the pub).
Has had a few rarities over the years (hoopoe amongst others), but is best for waders on the incoming tide.Dunlin, redshank, curlew sandpiper and little stint on migration,, bar-tailed godwit can usually be seen, with ringed plover, grey plover and other shorebirds.Check the shore areas of seaweed for yellow wagtail, wheatear etc and the bushes and trees along the lane to Craster for migrants such as yellow-browed warbler. Always interesting.
