Campfield Marsh

Campfield Marsh RSPB lies on the Solway estuary west of Bowness-on-Solway and is a mosaic of saltmarsh, peatbogs, farmland and wet grassland. The reserve is home to spectacular varieties of wildfowl in winter including large numbers of barnacle geese.Vast numbers of waders gather at hide tide including grey plover, knot, oystercatcher and bar-tailed godwit. The newly created Solway Wetlands centre has been provided on the reserve and a boardwalk, paths and hides have also been erected.
Breeding waders include redshank, lapwing, snipe and curlew with good numbers of tree sparrow also present. The reserve is probably at its most interesting in winter with wildfowl such as pintail and shoveler present but also possible are visiting hen harrier, peregrine and short-eared owl. Visitors could expect skua passage in spring, with all four skuas on active migration.
