200 acre reservoir built next to the Louth Navigation canal between 1963-1978.Covenham acts as a pumped storage reservoir from the canal, and can be supplemented by transfer schemes from Great Eau and Long Eau rivers.Well known as a regular site for waterbirds especially in winter where it attracts smew, goldeneye, goosander divers (black-throated in winter plumage pictured) and grebes but well worth visiting at other times. Covenham has an impressive list of rarities including terek sandpiper, american black tern, red-necked grebe, little stint, barred warbler...
