Exminster marshes

Situated five miles from Exeter city centre, Exminster and Powderham Marshes are great places to see birds all year-round. You can enjoy lovely walks here in this fascinating landscape. The marshes are a vital feeding and resting area for large numbers of birds which come here on their migration and to spend the winter with large flocks of geese, ducks and waders. This is also one of the last few places in south-west England where lapwing and redshank (pictured) still nest.
In winter expect large numbers of brent geese and wigeon with tufted duck, pintail and gadwall frequenting the lagoon.Wintering waders, Lapwing and golden plover will be visible in the surrounding fields and are often joined by large flocks of black-tailed godwit.Short-eared owl and buzzard should also be present.
In spring there is a good chance of watching hobby chase dragonflies along with visiting warblers. Cetti's warbler (all year).
