Flaxfort Pond
3.2km from Timoleague, east side of Clonakilty Bay, Cork.Size: 4.5 hectares
Habitat: A small freshwater lake and reedbed separated from the sea by a single bank, located on the coast road. There are plans to build a hide and remove some of the reeds to create a gravel shoreline, and also plans to manage water levels, as the lake sometimes dries out substantially.

Birds & wildlife: Breeding birds include Mallard, Teal and Sedge Warbler. There is a heronry nearby. Winter visitors include Teal, Wigeon, Pintail, Mallard and Coot. The lake is used as a high-tide roost by waders and wildfowl, and attracts migrant birds. Purple Heron has been seen.

Visiting & access: View from adjoining public road, or approach from sea-bank side with caution.
