All the best birding sites in Brittany, Normandy and the channel coast, Paris region, North Central region, South Central region (Normandy-Maine Forests, River Loire etc) The mountainous East (Nancy, Northern Vosges, Strasbourg/Rhine Valley) etc.

The area covered by this book is roughly half of France north of a line running from the south bank of the Loire estuary on the Atlantic coast to Lake Geneva in the East. This division is partly climatic and geographic as can be seen by the bird populations ( for example, very few if any Fulmars, Black Storks, Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Rock Pipits, Collared Flycatchers, Icterine Warblers, or Rooks breed south of this line (though the latter are rapidly expanding their range) while Short-toed Eagle, Scops and Eagle Owls, Rock Thrush, tawny and Water Pipits, Ortolan Bunting, Crag Martin, Fan-tailed, Orphean, Sardinian and Sub-alpine Warblers rarely occur north of it) and partly for convenience when grouping sites. It should be noted that there is also a east-west divide within this area with certain bird species; Nutcracker, Black Grouse, Fieldfare, Marsh Warbler,Willow Tit, Pied and Collared Flycatchers, for example, breeding only or predominantly in the east.
