One of the first French Regional Nature Parks,and covering 70.000 hectares the Forêt d'Orient was created in 1970 and lies twenty five kilometres to the East of Troyes. An important site for migrating and wintering waterbirds and White-tailed Eagle,and the most important wintering site for Common Crane (Grus grus) in France.

Breeding;-Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), European Honey-buzzard (Pernis apivorus), Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Western Marsh-harrier (Circus aeruginosus), Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius), Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio).Passage;- Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Bean Goose (Anser fabalis), Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), Gadwall (Anas strepera), Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata), Common Teal (Anas crecca), Common Pochard (Aythya ferina), Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus).
