Hurworth Burn Reservoir

Lying approximately 10 miles southeast of Durham City and 2KM West of the A19, Hurworth Burn reservoir can be viewed from the old railway line (closed in 1958) that runs alongside the eastern edge. There are seats and willow screens which allow for exellent views accross the water and the reedbeds planted by the Durham Bird Club.Hurworth Burn Reservoir is notable for its wintering wildfowl including smew (pictured) and good wader passage, especially in autumn. The surrounding farmland offers some variety with wintering thrushes and finches.
