Insh Church and Tom Dubh

Loch Insh lies seven miles south of Aviemore with the River Spey passing under Kincraig bridge. This area of the loch has sheltered slow flowing water which attracts divers both red-throated and black-throated divers aswell as regular wildfowl including goldeneye pictured. Car parking lies oposite Insh church on the minor road between Kincraig and the B970. Walk through the gate here and scan the water. The path follows the shoreline (part of the Badenoch & Strathspey way) , or climb to Insh church yard to obtain excellent views of the ospreys which nest on the small island of Tom Dubh. Other woodland birds include spotted flycatcher - late spring / summer and great-spotted woodpecker. Scan the surrounding hills for common buzzard and other raptors.
