Kesznyéteni Tájvédelmi Körzet (Protected Area) Taktaköz.Size: 2,025 hectares Habitat: Swamp, meadow, grassy steppe. Swamps formed in ancient river-beds, meadows on shallows, gallery forests. Birds & wildlife: Saker, Ferruginous Duck, Corncrake, Great Egret, Little Egret, Night Heron, Squacco Heron. Other animals include several dragonfly species, Stag Beetle, Rhynoceros Beetle, Long-horned Beetle, Otter and other Amphibians. Plants include Yellow Iris, Green-winged Orchid, Elegant Orchid, Hog's Fennel. Visiting & access: Open all year round, although there is limited entry. The reserve has Visitor's path with a watchtower. 2km from Kesznyéten and 10km from Tiszaújváros is accommodation for up to 15 people with all the modern conveniences. German and English is spoken by the reserve staff. Entry to the reserve is DEM 10 (4 postcards included) with 25% discount for BirdLife members. You can reach the site by car (from Budapest via Tiszaújváros to Kesznyéten); by rail (from Budapest either via Miskolc and Tiszaújváros the taking a bus to Kesznyéten, or via Miskolc and Tiszalúc); or by bus from Budapest via Tiszaújváros to Kesznyéten. Other services include horse riding, car hire, cycling, boating, professional guidance and fishing. A minibus operates for a maximum of 18 people with driver costing DEM 1.2 per km. Other protected areas and places of interest within an hour car journey include a Castle, museums, vine-culture, National Parks, thermal-baths, and ice-skating in the summer.
