Lange Luess
Northeast of Schlosshof, Lower Austria, Austria, (within IBA March-Thaya-Auen).Size: 3 hectares.
Habitat: Wet hay meadow, which is partly flooded in spring, crossed by reed-vegetated ditch. It is mown once or twice a year.
Birds & wildlife: Grasshopper Warbler, Reed Bunting, Hunting Marsh and Hen Harriers, in some years calling Corncrake. The small ephemeric ponds on this meadow are nationally important habitats for "ancient" crustaceans. Important for its plant life.
Visiting & access: Difficult, as it is a small, privately-managed hay meadow. Anyone interested in visiting the general area of March-Thaya-Auen is invited to contact BirdLife Austria who will give directions on where to see which birds.
