Although this reserve (on the banks of the River Trent) still has active quarry workings, the list of species either breeding or as visitor has quicky risen to over 200 ! and Langford Lowfields is now one of the largest reedbeds in the East Midlands, but will be the largest when completed and one of the most important in the UK.The RSPB have managed the site carefully and there are a series of public trails giving visitors splendid views of avocet, marsh harrier and bittern.Alongside trails at the north of the reserve, a floating bridge, reedbed boardwalk and new car park have been built.

All Year: barn owl, bittern, cetti's warbler Winter : goldeneye and other wildfowl, Spring: yellow wagtail, wheatear, sand martin, Summer : sedge warbler (pictured) reed warbler, avocet, cuckoo, hobby, Autumn : passage waders including greenshank, wood sandpiper, green sandpiper
