Loch na Muilne

A small lowland freshwater lake which is managed as a reserve by the RSPB. Loch na Muilne lies between Arnol and Brue on the A858.Park in the 'Historic Scotland' car park and access the reserve through a gate.There is usually a warden on hand in summer with the site being of major conservation interest with its breeding red-necked phalarope pictured.The surrounding moorland has breeding waders in spring / summer including dunlin, redshank, lapwing, snipe and golden plover. Birds of prey are also evident including merlin which has its UK stronghold on Lewis.
There are regular guided walks throughout June organised by the RSPB to look for Eagles, corncrake, and other species. Details via the RSPB website.
