Lough Abisdealy
Lissard Estate, south of Skibbereen, Cork.Size: 32.4 hectares
Habitat: A freshwater lake fringed with reedbed vegetation. It lacks shallows and shoreline. There are plans to build islands and a gravelly shoreline to increase the diversity of birdlife. Fifty nest-boxes have been put up on the estate, including one for Barn Owls.

Birds & wildlife: It is attractive to dabbling ducks. Also attracts migrant warblers in autumn. Wood Warbler and Eastern Chiffchaff, have been seen. A good selection of woodland birds, including Jay, occurs on the estate.

Visiting & access: Contact the Lissard Estate visitor centre (1.6km out of Skibbereen on the L60 to Castletownshend) for details of visiting. Entry point at gate lodge. Free access to BirdWatch Ireland members. Bird hide recently installed, and may be approached by a wooden walkway through reeds.
