Lough Beg
Lies beside SmithKline-Beecham chemical plant, between Carrigaline and Currabinny on the west shore of Cork Harbour.Size: 12.1 hectares
Habitat: A brackish lagoon, separated from the sea by a causeway. Marshy grassland, predominantly sedge, surrounds the lake.

Birds & wildlife: It is an important high-tide roost for waders and wildfowl throughout the year. Godwits, Shanks and all the common duck species are regular. Water Rail breed in the sedges. Rare visitors have included Spotted Crane, Wilson's Phalarope, Little Egret and Yellow Wagtail.
