Lundy Island

Lying astride the mouth of the Bristol Channel, Lundy has long proved to be a magnet for migrating birds, with a long list of major rarities to its name, and is nationally important for its breeding seabirds.

The island is perhaps best known by birdwatchers for it’s rare vagrants, however, news of their arrival is often slow to reach the mainland and relies on the relatively few visiting birders reporting their sightings to bird information lines. The annual bird report published by the Lundy Field Society provides an overview and permanent record, but is not a ‘news’ service as such. This website has been developed with the aim of filling that gap, and to provide a convenient and easily accessible means of sharing recent sightings of birds on Lundy.

(above) Many of Lundy's rare birds have been discovered in the ravine that shelters Millcombe house.
