Lying to the east of Austria around 1 hour's drive from Vienna on the Czech republic border the floodplain of the river March creates a typical 'Eastern European' marsh landscape.It is a WWF reserve reached from the village of Marchegg.
Summer birds include:- both Black and White Stork, Herons including Night heron,Spoonbill, Kites, Buzzard, Honey Buzzard,Lesser-spotted Eagle, Grey-headed and Middle spotted Woodpecker,Ural and Tengmalm's Owl, Savi's Warbler (right) and River warbler,Thrush Nightingale and both Pied and Collared Flycatcher.
