Rarities and Seawatching

The most South-westerly point on the British Mainland, Porthgwarra has produced many rare birds over the years and is well known to Cornish birders.Gwennap head is one of the best seawatching sites in Britain with sea birds passing close by under the right conditions.(as with many sites in this area, take account of the position of the sun -as birds will be in silhouette from midday onwards).
Gwennap head is the number one site in Britain for Cory's shearwater (see Pendeen watch)

Other birds

Other birds include breeding skylark, stonechat and linnet. Check the area of trees and bushes around the car park for migrants - Yellow-browed warbler , Dusky Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo have been recorded in recent years.
