Sanda (Scotland)

The Sanda Island Bird Observatory is the first observatory to be set up on the Scottish west coast and is the fourth Scottish bird observatory.
The island was accorded 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' status in 1995, acknowledging the importance of both the breeding and the migration of its bird populations. The island is notable for its colonies of Manx Shearwater, Storm Petrel, Guillemots, Razorbill, Puffin, Shag and Gulls. In addition, large numbers of Seals, both Atlantic Grey and Common frequent the shoreline and come to breed.
