The Bolton Abbey Estate covers 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside in the Yorkshire Dales.
There are medieval buildings to explore and 80 miles of moorland, woodland and riverside footpaths.The largest remnant of acidic woodland in Yorkshire, Strid wood (SSSI) was opened to the public by the 6th Duke of Devonshire in 1810.The river Wharfe runs north to south through the wood and is the site for the notorious Strid.Best visited April - June Pied flycatcher, wood warbler, woodpeckers and dipper,Raptors moorland species.
