Texel

Texel (pronounced Tessel) ,is the biggest and most populated of the Frisian Islands in the province of Northern Holland, and also the westernmost of this archipelago, which extends to Denmark. The island is a protected nature reserve and is reached by a twenty minute ferry journey from the mainland. It is perhaps best known for its breeding Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) pictured (Andreas Trepte) but many other species occur as both breeding species including Pied Avocet, Kentish Plover, Sandwich Tern, Arctic Tern and Montagu's harrier or passage visitors including Dark-bellied brent geese, Red Knot, Curlew, Bar-tailed godwit and wildfowl. The woodlands hold Short-toed treecreeper and Hawfinch.
