About Us

Birdersmarket was established in 1996 and was one of the first to trade 'online' in Natural history books, and especially used, hard to find items. It has always been a primary objective to offer products that were or could be recycled. Since that day of dial up internet we have now shipped many thousands of books to all corners of the globe (except China and one or two others from memory). We expanded in 2008 to include sales of used binoculars, scopes and birding gifts, and recently we have included bird art. We have also donated many surplus books to wildlife charities. After around 15 years of successful trading we were finding it harder to obtain stock to keep up with demand and often found ourselves buying from other book dealers to fulfil orders. Also due to the limitations of the software we used at that time it became prudent to shift our entire itinerary to Amazon Marketplace joining the many hundreds of other UK, US and European booksellers and birding product outlets on Amazon's extremely efficient and trusted selling platform.

As such Birdersmarket became a participant in the Amazon Europe S.à.r.l. Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.co.uk/Javari.co.uk.” This allows us to offer the public an unequalled choice of not only our own stocks, but to advertise birding products from our fellow sellers.

We are also participants in other affiliate schemes (Provided that they do not pollute the planet -we will not partner with airlines for example) which help to pay towards our free magazine and birdwatching resources. We are keen birders with our own extensive catalogue of over 5,000 bird sound recordings made over 30 years. An RSPB Bird of Prey defender, and regular donators to wildlife charities. See our events news below.

Aves Society Belgium

Aves was born, as a de facto association, in 1953, thanks to the initiative of Joseph Nagels. It took the form of a non-profit organisation ten years later. Initially, it mainly organised nature excursions for the Brussels public. The coast was a privileged destination. This explains why the dwarf tern, a bird that nested on Belgian beaches but was in scarcity, served as the logo of the association.

These Brussels residents were joined shortly afterwards by a group of Liégeois (André Rappe, Albert Demaret, Jean-Claude Ruwet...) who experienced, in February 1956, an extraordinary phenomenon that gave Aves its demanding aspect for the protection of birds: the freezing of the waters concentrated on the lower Meuse impressive quantities of merry, withers, wild swans ... who were shamelessly massacred by hunters. Tenderie was also wreaking havoc at the time, pole traps were not uncommon...

Czech Society for Ornithology

The very first session of people potentially interested in the membership of the Czechoslovak Society for Ornithology was held in Prague on April 5, 1926. The enthusiasts, who had gathered that day, discussed the possible content of activities, adopted a bylaws draft and elected an interim board. The bylaws were officially acknowledged by the Ministry of Interior in 1928. The constituent gathering was then held on April 22, 1928, in Prague. Professor Jiří Janda was elected the first chairman of the society and the head of the first board. In the beginning, the first activities were aimed at the monitoring of bird species distribution and abundance.

After the first bird-ringing center had been established in 1934, bird-ringing became another basic activity of CSO members. A newsletter for members started to be published in 1928. The „Sylvia“ magazine was launched in 1934. Both of these periodicals have been issued ever since!
